Maximize Your Apartment Space: Bedroom Edition

September 15, 2022 By CincyRents Leave a Comment

A picture of a tidy bedroom. In our last four posts, we shared ways to maximize your kitchen, living room, bathroom, and closet spaces in your rented home or apartment. As always, we’ll provide a short summary list of our favorite suggestions and at the bottom of this article, you can find some videos that go into further detail and help you visualize what these changes might mean for your space.

  1. Under the bed storage: Ikea, The Container Store, and Amazon have lots of great storage options for underneath your bed. You can store off-season clothes, shoes, hats, or almost anything underneath your bed. This reduces clutter and utilizes space that would otherwise be wasted.
  2. Trunks: Using a trunk at the foot of your bed is another great way to get some more storage that also adds some decorative value. Typically, you can find these second-hand using places like Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.
  3. Put your dresser in the closet: If you don’t have enough space to move around, see if your dresser will fit inside your closet. It may seem a bit unconventional, but a dresser in the closet keeps all of your clothes in one place and frees up valuable floor space in your room.
  4. Rolling carts: This is definitely a trend that we subscribe to in each room of the house. If you can store jewelry boxes, sweaters, or other things on a rolling cart and then hide it in your closet then it offers more floor space and better organization.
  5. Floating shelves: If your landlord permits it, you can add some floating shelves to the room for decorative value and storage. The advantage of a floating shelf is that you can put items on the wall without needing to take up floor space with a large cabinet or bookcase.
  6. Over-the-door storage: If you have a lot of hats, belts, ties, scarves, or other accessories then you may consider over-the-door storage. There are typically a lot of options to choose from and they are more practical and accessible for quick use.
  7. Storage baskets: Instead of having piles on the floor, why not find some decorative baskets to sort things into? These can be picked up and moved if you need more space or decide to rearrange later. The key to efficient bedroom storage is to have a dedicated place for everything you use regularly.

Be sure to check any tips that require modification with your landlord or lease before proceeding. Here are a few videos to provide more ideas:
