Beautifying Your Rental

June 13, 2019 By Cincy Rents Leave a Comment

Renting a home can be an exciting time for anyone.  Especially if you have just moved to a new city, started a new job, or entered into a new life phase.  Renters often want to make their space theirs immediately upon moving in.  But how do you go about decorating a space while renting?  We’ve compiled a list of ways renters can make their space feel more homely without breaking the bank.

Interior Walls

Rental interiors are typically painted a neutral color to apply to the masses.  If you prefer different colors for the walls in the rental, talk with the property manager on your options.  More often than not renters are allowed to repaint the interior of the space as long as they paint it back prior to the end of their lease and moving out.

If you decide not to paint, you can still add your own style with pops or color.  A few decorative ideas to introduce some color into your rental space is to use furniture, pillows, or art that are more in tune with your style.

Smaller Spaces

If your rental is smaller in square footage, there are ways to decorate without feeling crammed or confined.  Utilize mirrors to reflect more light and give the illusion of a bigger space.  Find multi-purpose pieces of furniture that will allow for more space when not in use.  These could be things like trunks for coffee tables (extra storage) or stacking chairs.  Also, think about adding furniture that is full in size and sets rather than using odds and ends furniture pieces that will give the feel of a doll house.

The Outdoor Space

Many home rentals will have a front or rear outdoor space.  Exterior spaces can provide your home with a warm welcome to your visitors.  Depending on the time of year and the weather, consider adding some of the following personal touches to showcase your personality and design aesthetic:

  • Plants
  • Lightbulbs
  • Garden umbrella
  • Patio furniture
  • Fire pit

These options are easily removable and interchangeable depending on the season, and you can choose your price point on what to spend on decorating.  Create your outdoor space as an extension of your interior rental and an extra area to entertain.

Storage Tips

Renters have to be cautious about the changes they make in their home since nothing can be permanent.  If you have a smaller space and are lacking the amount of storage you desire there are a few hacks and tips to use.  Think about utilizing furniture, hideaway storage, removable shelving, pegboards, behind the door racks, and more.  Visit your local storage store for ideas and inspiration for your unique space.

Conclusion

Just because you are renting a home, does not mean you cannot make it your own.  If you would like more information on property management in the Cincinnati area, contact Cincy Rents today.
