In our last two posts, we shared ways to maximize your kitchen and closet spaces in your rented home or apartment. Today we’ll share some of our favorite tips for doing the same with your bathroom. Below you’ll find our curated list of the best ideas and at the bottom of this article, you’ll find some videos that share these tips in greater detail.
- Rolling Carts: They come in all sizes based on how much space you have, but they create a great place to store toiletries or extra supplies. If you don’t like your things on display when company is coming then you can roll them out of the room. This solution is also extremely renter-friendly as they make no changes to the room and won’t impact your security deposit. Plus, you can pack it up and take it to your next home!
- Floating Shelves: A lot of times these can be applied with an adhesive that doesn’t require drilling. Although, removing them may mean you need to clean the wall and repaint a little bit before moving.
- Open Shelving: This is another great option for using wallspace. However, this is one that you’ll need to check your rental agreement for and you may even want to consult your landlord before drilling into the walls.
- Mirrors: This is another one that will require some careful planning. Purchasing a quality framed mirror can add a lot of aesthetic value to your space and make it feel like your own. Typically you need to remove the existing mirror in order to do this so you’ll want to store that carefully and make sure you can reinstall it before moving out. If your new mirror requires any drilling or modifications then you may need to check with your landlord before embarking on this particular modification.
- Towels: Choosing a new color for towels won’t necessarily give you more space, but it will add an accent color to your bathroom without needing to paint. Re-painting a room is sometimes not allowed and almost always requires re-painting before you move. Instead, try using items that would be in your bathroom anyway to add some color and character!
- Rugs: With the same principle as towels, you can get larger rugs that will add some color to your bathroom and can go with you when you move.
- Over-the-toilet shelving unit: Almost every company sells these and they are free-standing (no mounting.) Not only do they add lots of usable space above your toilet, they can also enhance the look and feel of your bathroom.
- Over-the-door towel racks: If you don’t have a towel rack or prefer to keep the towel rack free for hand towels and guest towels then this is another easy way to get more storage space in your bathroom.
- Over-the-door waste basket: If you find the the floor space in the bathroom isn’t really providing you with sufficient room for moving around then you can switch to a smaller can that is concealed when not in use and hangs over the interior side of your closet door.
